Virtual Vault FAQs

Will a backup set exceed the estimated disk usage displayed when I created the backup set?

Yes. The Vault software defaults to allow for 10 revisions. As a result, the file will be backed up each time you modify the file up to 10 times. For example, if you backup a PDF which is 2 megabytes and has been modified 10 times the total size of the backup will be 20 megabytes.

How do I display my disk usage?

Open the Vault backup agent and click on Account Information. Your usage will be displayed under Online Information. Also, you can login to your account page for this same information.

How can I delete files from the backup?

You can only delete files through the Vault backup agent.

Can I change the default number of revision rules?

Yes. Open the Vault backup agent and change this under Preferences => Revision Rule Settings. For further instructions review the Change Revision Rules help document.

My Vault plan provides 5 gigs of storage space. Once I reach 5 gigs will my backups stop?

Computers have an uncanny habit of dying when you need them most. Net Access will allow you to continue backups even if you exceed you’re allotted space. It is important to check your usage to avoid high overage charges. For further information on how to manage your backup usage view our Reducing Vault Usage help document.

I would like to backup another computer. Do I have to contact Net Access or can I just install the software on the new computer?

It is very important that each computer has their own computer id set in the Vault preferences. If you use the same computer id for each computer you will not be able to separate what computer backed up one data when you need to recover lost data. You will need to contact Net Access tech support so we can create a new computer id for you.

What is the difference between a sub-user and a sub computer?

A sub computer uses the same username / password and encryption key as the main computer. This setup would be beneficial for those who have multiple computers/ servers to backup for the same client. A sub-user maintains the same encryption key, however, a different username and password is necessary. This setup would benefit a consultant who would like to backup data on separate client machines and set a separate username and password for each client.
