Netscape 4.5x Email

The following will help you to set up Netscape Communicator 4.5 or greater to receive e-mail. You can also use this page if you are having trouble with sending or receiving mail or posting to a newsgroup and you want to check your settings.

The following changes can be made either online (while connected) or offline (not connected).

To edit preferences in Netscape Communicator 4.5x:.

Step 1:

Open Netscape - Double click on the Netscape Communicator icon.

Step 2:

Click on Edit and then Preferences.

Step 3:

Click on the plus sign "+" next to Mail and Newsgroups and then click on Identity.

Type in your name and email address. You can leave the "reply to address" blank unless you want people to reply back to you at a different email address. If you are using this account for business purposes, you may want to include your organization name.

Step 4:

Click on Mail Server.

If you do not have an incoming mail server listed, please click on Add. If you already have an incoming mail server specified, click on it, then click Edit. Either way, you should get the window shown in step 5.

Step 5:

Be sure that both the server name and user name fields contain all lowercase letters and that the user name is just the first part of your email address (i.e. username and not username@nac.net). To save your email password so you won't have to type it in each time, put a check in the Remember Password box.

Step 6:

Click on Newsgroup Servers.

To add a newsgroup server, click the Add button. If you already have an entry for news.nac.net, click on that and click the Edit button.

Step 7:

Enter news.nac.net in the server field. This is the only information that needs to be entered.

Step 8:

Click OK to finish and save your settings.
